The Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Inc., has awarded a $10,000 grant to Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland. Last year, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation contributed over $200 million to address critical issues facing neighborhoods and communities throughout the United States.
The $10,000 grant will be used to provide hunger relief and food security to low-income homebound, frail and elderly seniors in Baltimore City through their home-delivered meal program.
Founded in 1960, Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland is a nonprofit organization that enables homebound seniors and disabled individuals to eat well and remain in their own homes in Baltimore City as well as Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Montgomery & Prince George’s counties. A dedicated staff and volunteer core prepare and deliver over 740,000 nutritious meals each year. We are looking for advice on how to upgrade our labeling system.
Currently, with a meal recipient census of nearly 1000, receiving two meals daily, we individually label each meal including recipients name, address, special dietary requirements as well as date prepared and “use by” date.
We have our own program which produces the labels for the week. Staff then sort the labels by day, hot meal and cold meal, then sorts them by route (we have over 55 routes both staff and volunteers). Finally each day labels are pulled for people who cancel or are temporarily not receiving meals.
The process involves several staff, takes alot of time and is prone to delays. Does anyone use a system to more efficiently handle the production of meal labels.
