MOWAA Included in White House’s Call to Serve on MLK, Jr. Day of Service

The White House has issued a call to all Americans to participate in a the National Day of Service this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. They cited Meals On Wheels as an organization combatting hunger in America. Read more to see what you can do to make the National Day of Service a success. Here’s the official White House news release:

“Americans will once again honor the memory and message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a National Day of Service, led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, on January 18, 2010.

Dr. King once said, “Life’s most urgent and persistent question is: what are you doing for others?” He challenged us to build a more perfect union and taught us that everyone has a role to play in making America what it ought to be. Forty years later, we still have work to do to realize Dr. King’s dream of economic opportunity for all. The needs are great, many Americans are hurting, and government can’t do it alone. We need citizens to help renew our nation through service – on the King Holiday, and throughout the year.

Service is a solution – it helps address serious problems and brings people together to strengthen their communities. Through service, we can help realize King’s dream and help build America’s new foundation.

As community leaders, we are asking you to consider getting involved in the following ways:

(1) Plan or join an MLK Day service project in your community. Click here to find a volunteer opportunity in your area or click here for helpful MLK Day tools, including project development guides, volunteer recruitment and management tips, media tools, and much more.

(3) Share your stories of service and impact at Serve.gov. You can click here to tell us how you are delivering on change in your community.

Thank you so much for allowing our Meals on Wheels program to connect with others who
serve those in need in their community.

It is so important to connect on these efforts.

    Peace.
