A Meals On Wheels volunteer from Mobile Meals in Spartanburg, SC recently went to a meal recipient’s home to deliver her a holiday meal and a Christmas gift. The volunteer found that the homebound senior client, Virginia, lived in a poor and broken down home. Her back door was completely boarded up because she had been robbed the day before. The front door had rags stuffed all around it to try to keep the freezing cold air from getting in. His gifts were two very warm sweat outfits, warm socks and a fruit basket. Virginia is 94 and all alone.
When the volunteer returned to his Meals On Wheels program he reported his findings and the next day along with her meal, Virginia received warm blankets and a lovely hand made afghan made by a volunteer. Her television had been stolen in the robbery so Mobile Meals also sent out a television and converter box. These gifts brought her to tears and made this holiday season one of the best she has had in years.
