As a member of the communications team with the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), nothing gives me more pride than seeing the great work of MOW volunteers and programs get national recognition.
On a recent trip to the Meals On Wheels program in Hyattesville, Md., I met Arnie Powell and the many clients he has diligently delivered meals to for the past fifteen years.
Arnie is a retired museum worker who told me that giving back is what we all should do in life. It gives us purpose. Arnie is an inspiration.
Soon after meeting Arnie, I began corresponding with Dave Carpenter, a reporter with the Associated Press. Carpenter was doing a story about how more people were looking for meaningful volunteerism in their lives.
I immediately thought of Arnie.
After putting the two in touch, and also directing Carpenter to talk with Meals On Wheels of Central Maryland, I was thrilled to see both profiled in Carpenter’s article, which was picked-up by the New York Times.

Way to go Arnie and Meals On Wheels of Central Maryland for getting this much-deserved national attention!
