On Friday, July 9, 2010, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis delivered meals to homebound seniors in Burleson, TX. Senator Davis partnered with Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties to deliver the meals.
Amy Jackson of Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties informed MOWAA of the event. Amy said that “each year, area Meals-on-Wheels programs invite local, elected officials to deliver meals in order to better educate them on the importance of the program in our local communities.” Amy stated that research from MOWAA’s Hunger Study reveals that senior hunger in America is on the rise and that Texas is ranked number four in the nation for elderly food insecurity.
We want to say “great job” to Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties for taking the initiative to get their local leaders involved in the fight against senior hunger.

Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland, Inc. is celebrating 50 years, and two Cantonsville, MD ladies, also celebrating their 50 years of life, partnered together to deliver meals during the 4th of July weekend. Allison Huppmann and Susan Stern have been best friends their whole life. When the ladies decided to celebrate their birthdays together, they wanted to give back to their hometown by delivering Meals On Wheels. And when it turned out to be the 50th “birthday” of Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland, Inc, as well, they knew it was meant to be.

Senior Life Resources, Meals on Wheels of Kennewick, WA, was recently invited to attend a grand opening of a local Firestone Complete Auto Care retail location on June 25, 2010. SLR MOW received a $500 check and Marcee Woffinden was able to meet famed Indy Car driver, Mario Andretti. Explaining the details of the day at the Firestone Grand opening, Marcee stated, “I was invited to attend a Firestore grand opening where they would present us with $500.00 and have a meet and greet with Mario Andretti. We got this because of MOWAA’s connection with Firestone. Thanks MOWAA!” Congratulations SLR Meals on Wheels.
